• Our most varied fishing area

At Sørengvatn and Kalbekkvika we offer the most varied fishing on the estate. Skogstua is a long way from people, with good fishing possibilities for trout outside the cabin door and further up in the mountain. The river which flows from Sørengvatn down to Storvatnet has some nice pools for fly fishing. The large approx. 100 km2 area is shared with our guests at Kalbekkvika.

For fishing for sea trout and wild salmon, one can either follow the outlet river from Sørengvatn or make use of the boat that lies in Storvatnet.

  • Charming logged cabin for 4-5 people

The 35 m2 cabin was built in the 1930s as a forest shelter. It has more or less retained its original condition. It is rough, with moss insulation between the logs. The part of the cabin earlier used as a stable has been turned into two comfortable bedrooms with bunk beds and a little bedroom with a single bed. The cabin is fitted with a solar panel with 230 V converter and USB charger. In the living room there is a sofa suite, dining table and kitchen corner with necessary equipment.

There is a separate outhouse with shower, sauna, comfortable outside toilet and wood room. It is possible to use the sauna as a drying room. Up in the mountain, at Søbergsvatnet, there is a small hut that is included in the rental (shared with Kalbekkvika).

  • Vassbygda - a fishing eldorado

At Sørengvatn and Kalbekkvika we offer the most varied fishing on the estate. Skogstua is a long way from people, with good fishing possibilities for trout outside the cabin door and further up in the mountain. The river which flows from Sørengvatn down to Storvatnet has some nice pools for fly fishing. The large approx. 100 km2 area is shared with our guests at Kalbekkvika.

For fishing for sea trout and wild salmon, one can either follow the outlet river from Sørengvatn or make use of the boat that lies in Storvatnet.

Fishing

Trout and arctic char

In the shallow and productive lake Sørengvatn you can catch trout up to one kilo. Our guests at Sørengvatn have boat at their disposal. The river running from Sørengvatn to lake Storvatnet is a great place for fly fishing, and the lower 500 meters of the river holds salmon and sea trout. There’s also trout and arctic char in lake Storvatnet and Fjellvatnet. The char is mostly small but the brown trout can grow to 3 kilos.

For those who enjoy mountain lake fishing we recommend visiting lake Søbergsvatn. Its regarded as the best trout lake on the estate by many guests. At Søbergsvatn you will find a boat at your disposal and an extra hut where you can spend the night. Lower- and upper Urdstjørn are also good mountain lakes for trout fishing.

Sea trout and salmon

In the Eide watercourse our guests at Sørengvatn can fish for sea trout and salmon in 3 lakes and 2 rivers. River Øvereidelva is fast and with a lot of white water, but the inlet/outlet are good spots. Most of the spawning grounds lies above Øvereidet so a large proportion of anadromous fish pass through this point. PS! Guests at Øvereidet cabin have exclusive fishing right on the north-western side of the river. The river Aunelva is completely different, with its slow running water and meandering character. Perfect for single hand fly fishing.

History of Søbergsli

The farm Søbergsli was first registered in 1657. The tenant was Claus Michelsen. He had 1 horse, 3 cows, 5 goats and 4 sheep. The farm has existed before that time. It was part of the Norwegian/Danish king’s properties in Nordland and Troms. The King was forced to hand over his properties in northern Norway to pay off his war debts to the financier Jocum Irgens in 1666. Part of the land was later purchased by Julius Jakhelln in 1973 who built a sawmill on Risøya at the outlet of the Bindalsfjord. For further details, see under “About us, history” Søbergsli is part of the Plahte Estate in Bindal, bordering in the east to Brønnøy. When a road was built to Vassbygda from Hommelstø in 1913-14, Søbergsli got a shorter way to the fjord, to the church and the trading centre than most farms in Vassbygda, and was therefore less isolated.

They had a boathouse by the fjord at Søbergslistøen, and fishing was an important means of subsistence . The climate at the farm was good enough to grow grain. Hunting was equally important. They caught bears in traps, and the last tenant on the farm, Elias Johnsen, told how he shot wolves on bait from a peep- hole in the cowshed. Elias was from Hongbarstad, married to Anna Jensdatter from Tosdal. They moved to Søbergsli in 1847. Their daughter, Severine, was born in 1869. After her parents and her elder sister had died, Severine lived alone on the farm. She died in 1936 and was found by a vagrant, who used to get food and shelter at Søbergsli when passing by. The farm has since been abandoned. The farmhouse itself was sold and moved to Barstad. Its foundation walls can still be seen in the spruce wood that has been planted on parts of the farm field.
